Mobile SEO and the need for descriptive links...

It’s a well known fact that links play a key role in search engine optimization. In addition to providing a physical connection between pages, search engines also use links to get advance notice of the content they’ll find at the other end of that link.

Google Analytics goes Real Time

The web is getting faster, and not just the speed of the pages, but also the speed of change. Before, it was fine to build a website and modify it only when new products were launched. All of us avid Analytics users know that’s just not good enough. We need to be constantly on the lookout for problems and opportunities.

Currently, Google Analytics does a great job analyzing past performance. Today we’re very excited to bring real time data to Google Analytics with the launch of Google Analytics Real-Time: a set of new reports that show what’s happening on your site as it happens.

How your reports make your link building suck

How your reports make your link building suck

There is one surefire way to drive up rankings for specific keyword phrases: aggressive keyword focused anchored links. These are hard to get in a legitimate fashion. Just ask any good link builder how hard it is to get hundreds of perfectly anchored links to a subpage without an ounce of grayhat. Measuring success with only keyword specific ranking reports provides incentive for poor link building practices.

JC Penney Linking Scheme

http://www2.webmasterradio.fm/blog/jc-penney-linking-scheme-uncovered/

In a piece of investigative journalism that harkens back to the good old days of hard-nosed reporting, the New York Times recently uncovered that JC Penney’s website was involved in a linking scheme of epic proportions. According to the article, there were over 2000 websites discovered that had absolutely nothing to do with JC Penney that had key phrases (such as “evening dresses” or “bedding” or “casual wear”) linking directly to Penney’s website. In some cases the phrases were even tacked on to the bottom of these seemingly random websites.
